A Successful Annual Engineering Conference on the Sustainable Development Goals

The Chamber of Engineers organised the 29th Annual Engineering Conference, themed Sustainable Development Goals: An Engineering Perspective. This event was defined as successful and rewarding by the numerous participants that attended the full-day conference the 14th of October 2022.

The 2022 Annual Engineering Conference was opened by the President Inġ. Malcolm Zammit and hosted by Inġ. Ansel Briffa. The opening address was followed by an address by an address from the legislators for the engineering profession, namely; the Minister for Public Works and Planning Hon. Dr Stefan Zrinzo-Azzopardi and Opposition Spokesperson for Infrastructure Hon. Inġ. Ryan Callus. The Conference programme also included the participation of 24 local and international keynote speakers including representatives of the European Commission and FEANI.

During his opening address, Chamber President Inġ. Malcolm Zammit emphasised on the impact of engineers on the United Nations SDGs and highlighted that “legislators, policymakers and representatives need to reflect this global agenda through their own vision. The positive influence that engineers and technocrats can potentially have on policymaking cannot be underestimated any longer. Instead, as engineers we need to step up and voice our expert views on matters of national importance such as energy, water and waste management, sustainable manufacturing, sustainable buildings, the circular economy and other sectors where the engineer proves crucial”

The Annual Engineering Conference showcased a breadth of sustainable practices in private and public entities, multiple policy actions intended to improve quality of life and several research efforts which are making processes and products more sustainable.
