On Saturday, 10th of June 2023, The Municipality of Chania celebrated World Environment Day with hundreds of children and adults, with many fun awareness activities, inside the former Markopoulo Camp in Agios Ioannis.
The Directorate of Environment, Cleanliness and Green of Chania, in cooperation with the other departments and municipal services, with the support of local bodies, security forces, environmental organizations, schools, and, of course, citizens, celebrated the World Day together and raise environmental awareness by playing and having fun activities; such as distribution of 10,000 flowers, a series of sports and cycling routes, learning about firefighting equipment, and so on. Many parallel activities from different projects participated, and surprised children and parents about a new space acquired by the Municipality of Chania and a huge and modern urban park will be created.
At our booth next to the VARCITIES project, we welcomed hundreds of children and adults, giving the audiences acquainted with our project, and played small interactive games that went along with the event's theme.
This year's World Environment Day has the slogan #BeatPlasticPolution, and those attending are invited to bring along a multipurpose water bottle to actively participate in the action.
