JUSTNature at the Leuven 2030 Urban Lab

Leuven 8 October 2025

JUSTNature was presented at the Leuven 2030 Urban Lab event held in September 2025. At the event's poster fair, the work we've developed at the pilot site in Constantin Meunierstraat was highlighted. The Urban Lab itself is a unique collaboration between KU Leuven, UCLL, imec, the City of Leuven, and Leuven 2030, among others. It serves as a forum for knowledge exchange and innovation, using Leuven as a living laboratory to test and scale solutions for sustainability and climate neutrality.

The co-design journey we've carried out with local residents has shown how experimentation with nature-based solutions can lead to greener, more climate-resilient neighborhoods. Throughout the course of the JUSTNature project, collaborations already took place in Constantin Meunierstreet: KU Leuven and UCLL students were involved in the design of the pilot and evaluation with local stakeholders, marketing students were involved, and a bioblitz with schoolkids was organised together with an Biology professor of KU Leuven. Importantly, the work carried out within JUSTNature provides a strong foundation for continued research on nature-based solutions beyond the project’s lifetime. The lessons learned and methods developed serve as a valuable starting point for future innovation and collaboration in Leuven and beyond.
