The 6th Local Stakeholder Workshop in Constantin Meunierstraat

Leuven 21 November 2025
From pilot to climate street!

In early November, the final Local Stakeholder Workshop took place for our Leuven pilot in Constantin Meunierstraat. Together with local residents, we have tested, measured, and learned through the JUSTNature street installation since September 2023. These insights have now been translated into the final design for the street’s redevelopment.

Residents were able to explore the design through detailed plans and renders. The one-way traffic and traffic filter tested during the pilot proved successful and will remain in place. This change frees up space for green areas: the redesigned street will consist of 24% green space, while 16% permeable paving will ensure rainwater can infiltrate into the soil. In addition, the possibility of installing a district heating network beneath the street is still being explored.

By experimenting in real life with nature-based solutions in collaboration with the neighborhood, the pilot has truly paved the way for a climate street!

Participants of the Atelier Meunier —residents who have been involved in this journey since February 2023— were also asked to evaluate the participatory process. Their feedback confirmed that the pilot installation was seen as a real added value, that community input was incorporated into the design, and that both the pilot and the workshops helped neighbors connect with one another.

To celebrate the conclusion of this participatory journey, we gathered with residents to enjoy a sweet treat. Now, we look ahead: the street’s redevelopment is expected to begin at the end of 2026. Until then, the pilot installation will remain in place in Constantin Meunierstraat.
