The city of Leuven recently installed a temporary Nature-based Solution to transform a grey road into a green space. The design for the temporary setup was turned into reality with stunning results. Together with local residents, the last plants were planted on Saturday 30th September 2023, and the sensors were installed on Saturday, 15th October 2023.
The pavilion for recreation activities was installed by Atelier Circuler, a local company specialised in construction using recuperated materials from Leuven's demolished building. The temporary installation is part of the JUSTNatureProject, and it is an excellent example of how NbS, citizen engagement, and circular economy can work together to transition to sustainable and just cities in Europe.
