On the 25th of May 2023, the city of Merano held a co-governance meeting about green planning with more than 70 participants; architects, engineers and policymakers came to the event.
Our JUSTNature team member and ecological expert, Dipl. Ing. Andrea Balestrini explained the importance of NBS and Merano's green space regulations; Merano is the first city in Italy that not only requires a specific area of green to release a construction permit but also a high ecological functionality of that green.
A big part of the evening was reserved for an interactive discussion where policymakers and planners could better understand each other's needs. With JUSTNature, the city plans to develop an easy-to-understand #handbook for NBS implementation and a checklist for planners to be aware of the regulations concerning green spaces in Merano.
