New podcast episode with 'What's That Green?'

Merano & Bolzano 26 May 2026
The sixth episode of our podcast series in partnership with WTG? featuring the Bolzano & Merano CiPeL.

We are excited to share our sixth podcast episode with you! Part of the series JUSTNature developed with What's That Green?, the creative, community-driven platform focused on nature-based solutions in cities.

This time, we travel to the Italian Alps, where the cities of Merano and Bolzano (part of the JUSTNature project) are located. In this episode, you will hear from Ruth Lochmann (project coordinator, City of Merano) and Silvia Tomasi (Eurac Research), who share insights of the green interventions carried out in both cities. At the core of the co-created projects are the need to fight urban heat islands and air pollution, as well as the purpose of developing more inclusive green spaces. Click play and listen for yourself!

From green roofs in industrial areas to co-created public gardens, tree canopy mapping, edible landscapes, and climate adaptation policies, this conversation makes one thing clear: small interventions can spark much bigger transitions.

Some key reflections from the episode:

  • Participation is messy, slow… and essential
  • Citizens often know their spaces better than planners do
  • Urban nature is not only ecological, it’s social, emotional, and political
  • Temporary projects can become long-term shifts in planning culture

We are sure these reflections will inspire change in your own city. Listen and read and accompanying blogpost by WTG? to discover more!
