As part of Munich’s open space strategy for the inner city (Freiraumquartierskonzept Innenstadt), the City of Munich has identified at least 16 courtyards in the city centre with potential to act as new places for recreation, meeting others, to cool down in summer and experience nature. To try out what’s possible, the JUSTNature project is supporting the temporary redesign of two courtyards. The first, at cultural centre and home for refugees Bellevue di Monaco, brings a tiny green oasis into a vibrant multicultural hub: a new, shared space for experimenting, connecting with nature and with others.
Together with residents, other users and the Bellevue di Monaco café, ideas were collected at a workshop in 2023 for temporary measures to make the courtyard cooler, greener, and more welcoming. These ideas are now becoming a (temporary) reality. Let’s discover the new space and celebrate together, with a shared meal and live music at the last Open House for the month on Wednesday 28 August! Entry free, no registration necessary.
Further events will follow in the courtyard from now until summer 2025, creatively exploring ideas for an inclusive, sustainable, green and climate-friendly city. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Write to us at justnature@muenchen.de.
