In the month of March 2025, the Municipality of Szombathely organized, in the context of the JUSTNature project, a forward-thinking workshop aimed at strengthening the connection between sustainable urban development and economic responsibility. Invited speaker Dr. Zoltán Pogátsa, renowned Hungarian economist and sustainability advocate, led an engaging session for local decision-makers, including Szombathely's Mayor, Dr. András Nemény.

During the workshop, participants explored the synergies between climate resilience and local economic development, discussing how cities can aim at economic growth and environmental protection in the long term, maintaining both financial balance and ecological integrity while keeping social aspects in mind. Reflections also revolved around the communication of decisions related to sustainable operations in the city, prioritising policy clarity, rationale and transparency.
The event offered practical and inspiring insights into how sustainability can be embedded into everyday governance decisions!
